Lekotho (extremely rare old motif)

Pattern/Motif Name: Lekotho*

Design Format: Hip Wrapper (Kain Panjang) with undyed borders on the narrow ends only.

Provenance: Java, Surakarta

Manufactured: Before 1962

Technique: Hand-drawn wax resist on machine-woven cotton

Dyeing Methods: Natural Dyes, vegetable reddish-brown soga

Dimension: 2.5m x 1.1m

*) Lekotho is an extremely rare old motif. I have yet to know what Lekotho is. Does anyone know?

This batik attracts many aficionados. I received a number of emails asking about acqusition since its first appearance in this blog.
